A gymgoer ended up with a broken foot after it was crushed under a 140-lbs barbell that another sportsman accidentally dropped on him while working out nearby.

CCTV footage captured the dramatic moment taking place at a fitness centre in Shanghai, China, on the evening of 21st September.

A man dressed in a blue T-shirt appears to be attempting a weightlift but loses his balance almost as soon as he tries to stand upright.

As he falls to the floor, the right-side barbell hits another gymgoer on the foot. The victim, surnamed Zhang, then immediately falls down and curls up in pain.

He holds his right foot with his hands while others rush over to check on him as he is seemingly unable to get up.

The injured Zhang later told local media that he was in shock then, and experienced intense pain that forced him to fall to the ground.

Both men were later taken to a local hospital.

Zhang said: “I think he [the man who dropped the weights] suddenly twisted his foot, lost balance, and the falling barbell weighed around 140 lbs.

“It resulted in a fracture in my right foot, and I immediately laid down in pain.

“I will need to recover for three months.”

Zhang added that the gym manager has already reported the incident to the company, and further actions will depend on the response from higher-ups.

He emphasised the importance of safety precautions during workouts and urged everyone to be cautious.
