The accused, identified only by the pseudonym Chen Bin, was found guilty of intentional homicide and desecration of a corpse during a hearing at the Intermediate People’s Court of Maoming, in south-eastern China’s Guangdong Province, on 11th August.

Sick Chen was given a death sentence for deceiving 36-year-old Li Xiaoli into going to his home in Gaozhou under the pretext of buying medication on 7th December 2022.

He then assaulted and murdered her before calmly enjoying dinner next to her dead body.

Afterwards, he attempted destroying all evidence by cleaning the crime scene, disposing of the murder weapon, and removing her car’s recording device.

He was arrested after police found the car of the missing young influencer, who worked as a delivery person, near his home.

Chen then led investigators to her dead body after he dumped it near the road.

The court heard how Chen approached the married Li online with the intention of asking her out.

He pretended to order some medicinal herbs that she was selling to get her to come over to his home.

As soon as she arrived, he reportedly tried hitting on her but got shot down pretty quickly.

Apparently enraged by the rejection, he hit her on the head with a brick.

Worried that she would escape and call the police, Chen reportedly took out a hammer and bludgeoned her to death.

He then moved her body to the car and hid it before destroying all the evidence.

Later, he sexually violated the corpse while in the car before he finally dumped it in the grass near an intersection and abandoned the car and fled.

Li’s sister told the court: “The perpetrator was a stranger on WeChat, whom my sister had added during her previous business dealings in herbal medicine.

“They had never conversed, except for the possibility of discussing product needs during the course of promoting medicine.”

Li leaves behind a husband and five children.

Prosecutors also told how Chen had searched “where to hit a person to cause death” online prior to the murder.

He was given the death penalty after the judge ruled that the crime was premeditated and he failed to show any remorse.

The victim’s family said that they have no objections to the sentencing.

Chen’s defence team said they will appeal the verdict.
