Waiters at a popular restaurant have been accused of being too vulgar after dancing to the customers as part of a personalised service.

Footage recorded at the hot pot Haidilao restaurant, located in China’s north-eastern Liaoning Province. Shows the employees dancing to a version of the Ke Mu San dance, also known as ‘Subject Three’.

The videos show employees wildly moving their hips as if they were grinding against someone’s body, which social media users have now criticised as being too vulgar.

After the slew of online criticism, restaurant representatives said on 28th November that they encourage their staff members to provide personalised service, as long as customers feel comfortable with it.

The folk dance, mainly performed by young people alone or in groups, is quite common at weddings in some parts of China.

The characteristic hip and ankle twisting movement reportedly represents the mental state of young Chinese people, who are burdened by heavy workloads and intense pressure.

Media revealed that it recently rose to fame again through a meme. After which the restaurant chain began promoting the dance across all mainland outlets.

The company then bought the track’s copyright and asked its employees across the country to learn the moves.

However, several customers have since complained that the performance made them feel uncomfortable and ruined their peaceful dinner.

Users on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, also did not restrain from criticising the activity.

Douyin user ‘X’ said: “They look very tired, that’s enough, I feel sorry for them.”

And ‘thin sister’ wrote: “Haidilao has lately become an entertainment venue.”
