A modern cinema has been offering its patrons a very filling experience after it began serving a bowl of steaming hotpot with lots of side dishes while streaming films.

Moviegoers are able to enjoy a freshly-made meal instead of the usual bucket of popcorn alongside blockbusters at the Sanke Cinema in Chengdu, in south-western China’s Sichuan Province.

While they get comfortable in their spacious seats, a bowl of tasty broth is served in front of each one of them alongside fresh mushrooms and a variety of vegetables, shrimp and fresh shellfish.

The broth is placed on a small heater and left to simmer until it boils as the film commences.

Footage shows several people in the audience tucking into their meals while watching the popular action flick The Expend4bles in dim lighting.

The dinner-movie combo drew mixed reactions on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok.

One user titled ‘Zhang Chengjing’ commented: “Eat and watch! What a great idea! Recommended!”

Another user titled ‘Bunny me’ wrote: “I thought it would be just a gimmick, but I didn’t expect there to be really delicious options.”

And ‘Xiangyu’ said: “Chengdu has a lot of delicious food. It’s a place you won’t want to leave once you’ve arrived.”

Others, however, were not as convinced if the choice is practical.

A user called ‘Shizuka’ said: “I would have to lower my head and look at the food that I’m eating. But as I’d be focused on the food I wouldn’t be able to follow the plot.”
