This is the chilling moment teenagers are surrounded by an angry mob before one of them was beaten to death.

The three teenage boys – accused of stealing by villagers in Ukhalad, in rural India’s Maharashtra State – had been travelling on a motorbike when they were pulled off the vehicle and beaten.

They have been named as Arun Singh, 15, Kirpal Singh, 14, and Gora Singh, age not reported. Kirpal was later beaten to death, according to local media.

It is currently unclear which one was Kirpal, but two of the teenagers can be seen sitting terrified on the ground with their legs tied together.

The face of one of the boys, covered in cuts and bruises, shows they had already been attacked, with the third boy seen lying face down on the ground and not moving.

The teenagers were reportedly Sikhs. They traditionally keep their hair bound into a turban, but as can be seen, the turbans had been ripped off and their long hair, which they are never allowed to cut because of their religion, is seen hanging free.

Kirpal reportedly died of his injuries after the attack on 27th May after reportedly being savagely attacked with an iron bar.

As a final torture before the fatal beating, spicy curried chutney was poured into their eyes, according to local media.

Local media reports that the three had been looking for pigs when they were set upon by the mob.

Police Superintendent R Ragashudra said: “Two or three days ago a goat had been stolen from the village. The residents started keeping a close watch on the movement of suspicious elements at night.

“Early on Saturday morning when these boys entered the village as a group the residents got suspicious and assaulted them.”

Gora Singh later told the police: “They poured spicy chutney into our eyes.”

He also reportedly said that they broke an arm and a leg, with the suspect identified as Akram Patel allegedly ordering the mob to “kill them”.

Gora added: “One of them then hit an iron rod on Arun Singh’s head and also beat Kripal Singh in his intestine.

“Kirpal Singh was also hit by the rod on his head after which he became unconscious.”

He said: “Many people gathered around. They asked Akram to stop beating us and call the police instead, but to no avail.”

The victims were eventually taken to hospital where medics declared Kirpal dead.

Gora and Arun are understood to be seriously injured and are receiving treatment at the hospital.

Gora reportedly said: “We make a living by doing daily wage labour.

“We went to Pimpri Deshmukh village to catch loose pigs, but as we didn’t find any pigs, we began returning to Parbhani through Ukhlad village.

“When we were approaching the Eidgah at the turning of Ukhlad village road, five unknown people came from the front and took our motorcycle.”

One of Gora’s relatives reportedly told local media: “Our children did nothing.”

Mob ringleader Akram Patel and at least four other suspects have been seized by police, according to local media.

The investigation is ongoing.
