This is the creepy moment when a joint of raw beef is so fresh it twitches as a butcher tries to cut it up in south-east China.

The bizarre footage emerged after a customer filmed the butcher cutting up steak for her at the shop in Guangdong Province.

Each time the butcher cut into the joint, the steak seemed to pulse, as if it was trying to avoid the knife.

She later posted the creepy clip on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok.

Experts say one answer could be that the freshly slaughtered animal’s nerve endings in its muscles are still alive and responding to the stimulus of the knife.

Others believe the steer could have been fed on a diet of growth hormones that were still active after its death.

Social media users appeared to be baffled by the clip.

One named ‘The daddy of trolls’ said: “This meat is so fresh that it can’t be any fresher.”

Another called ‘One god’ wrote: “Let me tell you this, the cow that this meat came from was eating grass an hour ago.”

And user ‘I’m good’ said: “Even though I know it’s just moving because it’s really fresh, I still feel scared when I look at it.”
