This is the dramatic moment a man climbs a high-voltage powerline and walks along the electrical wires while risking a horrific death to allegedly escape a traffic police fine for riding without a helmet.

He stood there for hours waiting for the officers to give up and leave in the hope that he could avoid getting fined.

Phone footage shows the unnamed man opting for the daring escape near an intersection in Fuzhou, in south-eastern China’s Jiangxi Province, on 21st September.

In the video, he is seen climbing up the large pole as horrified onlookers and traffic cops watch from beneath.

After reaching the top, he sat down with his legs crossed and reportedly stayed that way, hoping they would leave.

Eyewitnesses claimed he appeared very agitated while sitting atop the pole and refused to get down despite the pleas of others.

Firefighters also arrived and safety air cushions were set up to catch him if he accidentally fell.

In another scene of the video, he can be seen apparently trying to reach another pole further away from the crowd as he moves along the wires by gripping them with his hands and also using his legs to move along them.

Witnesses said he occasionally waved towards his rescuers.

Later, he reportedly even took his clothes off to apparently mock the cops he escaped from.

After a few hours, his family reportedly persuaded him to get down.
