This is the tough-love moment a dad kicks his son off a tall bridge during a swimming session when the boy grows hesitant about taking the big leap.
The bizarre scene was captured by an unnamed bystander at the pier of the Hai River in Tianjin, one of the largest cities in China.
One piece of footage shows a man dressed in blue swim trunks standing beyond the guardrail of a tall road bridge along with his young son and daughter.
The family of three are apparently preparing for a dive, with the man’s son first in line.
As the young boy musters his courage to jump off the bridge – that appears to be about 30 feet high – he apparently begins rethinking the decision.
But the dad decides to intervene and tells the boy to stand up, then grabs both his arms and pushes him off with his leg.
Thankfully, the boy lands in the water seemingly unharmed.
Another piece of footage shows the child bopping along in the river as the dad then turns towards the girl, who appears to be wearing arm floats.
This time, however, the dad takes a different approach and carefully picks up his daughter in his arms and the two then jump into the water.
The images – shared later on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok – attracted widespread attention, with many netizens commenting the vastly different treatment both siblings got from their father.
One Douyin user titled ‘inadvertently blows the wind’ said in a comment: “He casually kicked one of them and then gently hugged the other.”
