Search and rescue teams are still looking for a man who defied a ban to visit a dangerous waterfall and fell into the raging torrent while being filmed for Instagram Reels.

Victim Sharath Kumar, 23, had gone from his home in Bhadravati, India, to the Arasinagundi Falls with a pal.

The two young men had sneaked into the out-of-bounds tourist attraction to film a stunning video for Instagram Reels, according to local media.

They had arrived by car and walked about six kilometres (four miles) to reach the beauty spot on 23rd July.

The falls had been closed off to visitors because of the heavy rains over Karnataka state in the previous days.

Shocking footage shows how Sharath stands on the edge of a slippery rock as he poses against the backdrop of the swollen waterfall.

However, as he is filmed, he suddenly slips, landing painfully on the hard rock before falling into the raging torrent.

As he disappears under the white water, his friend, identified only as Gururaj, can be heard screaming in shock in the background.

After the fall, IT worker Gururaj immediately informed forest staff, local media reported.

At the time of reporting, the Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services, police, and a diving expert were still scouring the Souparnika River for signs of the young man.

His disappearance has been registered at the Kollur Police Station.

Sharath is presumed to be deceased.
