This is the bizarre moment a riderless tricycle starts on its own and somehow steers straight into a line of parked vehicles, damaging six cars with online commentators branding the video the ghost rider.

The hard-to-believe incident took place at a packed parking lane in the city of Fuyang, in eastern China’s Anhui Province.

CCTV footage captured the sight showing an electric tricycle, left under a treeline next to the side of the road, appearing to have started its own engine with no one around.

The vehicle, along with its attached trailer, then seems to jump out of its spot and suddenly begins moving.

With its front tilted sideways, it makes a sharp left turn and a complete turn around to the other side, heading straight towards a line of parked vehicles.

It rams into the passenger side of a small truck that was initially parked behind it before it keeps on going and disappears from camera.

It is understood that the trike then ran into the non-motorised lane, and eventually crashed into six cars parked nearby before stopping.

An initial investigation reportedly revealed its owner had left the keys in with the engine running as he rushed to shelter himself from the sudden rain.

The downpour is then believed to have caused a circuit failure, leading to the electric trike behaving as if a ghost rider was in control.

The six cars it hit were reportedly damaged in the process, and the owner of the trike will be held responsible for the repairs.

Further investigations as well as an estimate of the damage will reportedly be carried out by the Fuyang City Traffic Police Department.
