A strange object that shone a bright green colour captured in the night sky sparked online debates about whether aliens have finally come to visit Earth.

Phone footage captured by an unnamed resident shows two green objects glowing in the dark sky above Wuhan, in central China’s Hubei Province in the early hours of 2nd September.

The lights reportedly hovered high above the ground for at least seven hours, attracting attention from many locals and netizens alike.

The person who filmed the peculiar sight said the object had neither moved nor its lights blinked for the entire time that it could be seen.

Many users on Douyin – China’s version of TikTok – wondered if it was a real case of an extraterrestrial spaceship coming to Earth after the video was posted there.

One user titled ‘Niu Bao’ commented: “Look, it’s a UFO!”

Another user titled ‘peacock flying southeast’ said: “It must be an alien spaceship.”

While user ‘Licorice Plum’ wrote: “Is it a spy thing?”

Others speculated that it might be a weather balloon or radar equipment which are often used to monitor atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity and wind speed.

However, staff at the Wuhan Meteorological Bureau said they did not release any weather balloons on the night of the 2nd and did not receive reports of any meteorological anomalies.
