The female tenant – not named in local media in Shanghai, east-central China – claimed she only became aware of the home’s unique interior after she rented it.

Shortly after moving in, the woman said she began cleaning when she stumbled upon a second door in the back of the closet.

Phone footage shows that by opening both sides of the wardrobe, the two seemingly separate rooms become one giant room joined together by the vast opening.

The woman laughed at the bizarre arrangement and later joked that she could pretend the inside of the wardrobe is the living room.

She later shared the video on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, where many users mocked the design.

One user titled ‘Nuan Nuan is the president’ said in a comment: “The wardrobe can accommodate another person.”

Another user titled ‘heart is like an isolated island’ said: “It’s so convenient, you don’t have to walk through the door.”

And user ‘stormy’ wrote: “I live in exactly this type of apartment in Hangzhou, and it’s extremely scary. Originally, it was a one-bedroom apartment, but the landlord forcefully converted it into a three-bedroom apartment. I sleep in the middle room, where I can’t see any light at all.”
