The owner of a rare Bugatti sports car was caught on camera the moment he wrecked the vehicle with a price tag of at least GBP 1.8 million when merging into another lane against a BMW that also refused to give way.

The incident, which likely cost the owner a fortune in car repairs, reportedly occurred on a street in Suzhou, in eastern China’s Jiangsu Province, on 22nd July.

It involved a special-edition Bugatti L’Or Rouge that is only one of four models of its kind whose unnamed owner apparently thought it gave him the right to change lanes whenever he wants to.

Dash-cam footage shows the driver trying to forcibly enter the rightmost lane by cutting off a grey BMW thinking it will let him pass.

But when the BMW kept travelling forwards instead, the two collided.

It is unclear if the BMW’s driver failed to notice the sports car cutting in but the collision apparently left the expensive car with quite a bit of damage.

The two motorists allegedly ended up arguing about who is at fault over the incident, with the Bugatti owner reportedly telling the other driver he should have been more careful of other vehicles.

Footage of the incident wound up on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, where many users accused the sports car’s owner of being guilty of what is possibly the most expensive car crash in the country and criticised his arrogance.

Not too long after, a Douyin user titled “Reconciled with the real Bugatti owner” shared a post saying that he had settled with the real Bugatti owner and had received compensation.

The user is believed to have been the BMW’s owner, although they later changed the name of the account.
