This is the moment two parents tightly wrap their arms around their newborn when a sudden earthquake wakes them up in the middle of the night.
CCTV footage captured the moment the family were shaken up by a 5.5-magnitude earthquake that was felt in Liaocheng, a city in eastern China’s Shandong Province at around 02:30 am on 6th August.
The video shows the couple laying in bed sleeping with their five-month-old baby between them when the bed suddenly begins shaking.
The two immediately wake up and look at each other in confusion.
The couple reportedly first thought what they felt was a strong wind but soon realised it was actually an earthquake.
Realising the furniture in the room is still swaying, the parents wrapped each other’s arms while leaning over the baby to protect it if things from the ceiling began falling.
Thankfully, the shaking stopped after a few seconds and nobody got injured.
The footage was shared on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, by the baby’s mum who said the sudden quaking shocked them and they felt quite helpless at the time.
The father, surnamed Sun, said his first and only instinct was to protect their newborn.
Many users were seemingly touched by their reaction and claimed they would have done the same.
One user titled ‘Andy SQJJ’ said in a comment: “It really made me tear up, the way these parents protected their child!”
Another user titled ‘boo bo ~’ wrote: “Baby, this is what mum and dad’s love is like.”
While user ‘Qingping Heyue 566’ jokingly added: “In my case, my husband and I spent ten minutes discussing whether or not to run downstairs.”
