This is the bizarre moment a patient’s manhood is linked to an empty Sprite bottle after a hospital in India ran out of catheter bags.
The DIY drain emerged in footage said to have been shot at Sadar Hospital in Jamui, on 7th August.
Medics instructed that the unconscious patient – who had fallen off a train – should be linked up to a catheter and given an insulin injection.
Instead, he can be seen with a tube leading through his shorts from his urethra into an empty drink bottle.
The video sparked outrage after appearing on Indian social media.
The patient’s family had tried to contact the hospital manager, Ramesh Pandey, but were not able to speak to him.
It was not until the next morning that the bottle was replaced with a sterile catheter bag, report local media.
Pandey later claimed that the hospital staff did not inform him about the lack of bags.
He told local media: “The patient has been provided with the facilities as per the doctor’s instructions.”
Pandey defended the hospital by explaining that the person responsible for the storeroom was on leave due to a leg injury from an accident.
He added: “If the in-charge had been working, this incident wouldn’t have occurred.
“Such incidents shouldn’t happen. How could it happen? The government provides all the needed medicines and facilities.”
Pandey said the mistake would not happen again and promised to punish the staff who decided to use the bottle.
The case is currently under investigation.
