Footage of the inferno – filmed at a Hindu festival in Mandsaur, India, on 21st August – shows the moment the performance went wrong.

The unnamed performer spits a flammable liquid from his mouth and ignites it in a bid to imitate Mahakali, the Hindu goddess of time and death.

But the stunt goes badly wrong, with flames quickly engulfing the man’s face.

As he writhes in agony, he drops his lit torch onto the carpet-covered stage, which also bursts into flames.

As another man rushes over to help the performer, he stumbles around on the burning platform trying to smother the flames on his face with his hands.

Miraculously, local media report he suffered no serious injuries and was treated for burns at a local hospital.

One netizen commented on X (formerly Twitter): “There should be ban on such stunts.”
