The rat can be seen jumping from one end to another in the locked cage.
The alleged 60 to 65 bottles of alcohol it had been sipping can be seen in the footage as well.
The rat was detained by the Kotwali police at their station in Chhindwara district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh recently.
The police had to set a trap for rats after they detected that about 60 to 65 bottles of alcohol seized that should have been used as evidence in court had been consumed and allowed to leak out by alleged rats, according to reports.
But they could only successfully capture one of the rodents which now bears the blame.
The police now have a problem on their hands regarding what to present as evidence in court against the individual from whom they had seized the alcohol.
The police warehouse and station in the region are old and have now become a haven for rats, according to local media reports.
The rats target items like seized cannabis stored in sacks.
The police have started storing the cannabis in iron tin boxes now and also store files at heights out of the reach of rodents.
