China has unveiled robotic dogs to be used by the military in reconnaissance and fighting.
The dogs of war were seen in recently unveiled footage from the joint Sino-Cambodian “Golden Dragon-2024” military exercise in which the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) publicly displayed the two robot dogs for the first time.
One of the robotic dogs is specialised in sniffing out problems and is to be used for reconnaissance, while the other carries an automatic rifle on its back and moves forward quickly and rapidly while at the same time targeting and shooting.
Chinese media said that the footage confirmed that China was well ahead of other rivals including the US in the development of robotic fighting machines.
According to the exercise video, the dogs of war are versatile ranging from collecting military intelligence to sending high-definition images and thermal imaging data to the command operation posts in real time.
They said that artificial intelligence (AI) design enables them to autonomously bypass obstacles and choose the optimal reconnaissance path to ensure efficient completion of the mission.
The fighting dog meanwhile is able to carry out streetfighting and ambushes from concealed places which were too risky to put human soldiers at risk.
The first country to develop the robot dog was the US but they later dropped the development project due to its high noise and complex technology.
Online commentators like ‘My Money’ said: “Police dogs are facing the risk of unemployment. We must work harder.”
And user ‘Everything Is Fine’ said: “Robot dog, interesting.”
While the user ‘So Blue 70634’ said: “If I were a soldier, I would collapse if I saw a bunch of these.”
