A four-year-old boy survived when he tried to do a Mary Poppins impersonation and jumped off the 26th floor holding an umbrella, believing that he would be able to fly.
Shocking footage shows the child’s tiny body crumpled on the ground beside a hedge with the mangled umbrella lying alongside him.
Medics are seen carefully moving him to a stretcher before rushing into an ambulance to take him for emergency surgery following the accident in the Chinese city of Jishou.
He reportedly suffered several broken limbs but incredibly survived, although it is unclear how much the umbrella slowed his fall, if any.
It was also reported that part of the reason he survived was because he appears to have struck the bush and landed on grass rather than the tarmac.
At the time of the accident, his mother was away working in another province, and his father, who is at home more often, was also away on a work assignment.
He was reportedly being looked after by his grandmother, who had briefly gone downstairs to collect his sister.
The youngster used the opportunity to take the brolly and climb up on the balcony before jumping, believing it would slow his fall like a parachute.
Many people reported that the youngster had been attempting to copy a cartoon stunt, although it was not specified whether it was the classic moment Mary Poppins uses an umbrella to arrive and claim the job of the nanny in the iconic Walt Disney movie of the same name.
