This is the moment a Chinese groom bursts into tears when his bride ditched the traditional wedding dress and instead turned up wearing the school uniform she had on when they first met 11 years ago.
The couple had been through a lot of difficulties in the intervening years in a long-distance relationship when they were in different countries and she said she wanted to show him that she was still the same girl he had met more than a decade ago.
A video shows the groom, not named, waiting for his wife to exchange their vows in Bozhou, in the eastern Chinese province of Anhui.
The bride, also unnamed, can be seen approaching her future husband from the wedding hall’s entrance with the groom all the time facing forwards. He did not look back until she lightly touched him on the back as she got close.
When the groom turned around, he was obviously startled by what he saw and burst into tears as instead of the traditional gown, she was dressed in a school uniform top, trousers, and black shoes, with her hair neatly pulled back in a ponytail.
The groom could not hide his emotions and was clearly happy, shedding tears as he pulled his bride and hugged her.
The school uniform she wore was reportedly the same uniform she wore when they first met 11 years ago in secondary school.
The following day, the groom shared his feelings on the social media platform Douyin, China’s version of TikTok.
He said: “At that moment, everything felt so familiar, I had expected to see her in a wedding dress; instead, I was greeted by the girl I fell in love with 11 years ago. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude that we’ve made it to this day.”
A childhood friend of the groom explained to local news media how the couple met while still in secondary school and the difficulties their relationship has encountered since.
He said that the long-distance relationship meant that at times, he was in different countries and would have been very difficult, but finally, they overcame the distance and are now married.
