Commentators have been joking about a rift in space-time after a skyscraper reaching into the clouds also managed to capture sunlight for a rare spectacle.
The footage of the tall buildings shimmering bizarrely was shot in Guangzhou, which is the capital and largest city of Guangdong province in southern China.
After noticing the way the top of the building was shimmering as if it was in an alternative reality, the driver of the car identified as Mr Wang grabbed his mobile phone and filmed it, before posting online with the headline: “A crack in space-time appears in Guangzhou.”
Other people said that the building was forming a gateway to fairyland, while another noted: “Be prepared for the arrival of the Immortals”.
The driver who notched up over a million views for his original posting on China’s Weibo said: “I was on my way to work and I thought it looked like fun, so wanted to share the magic with a few other people.”
He said he had no idea what caused it but it appeared that the sun was breaking through the clouds to eliminate patches of the building causing it to shimmer in the surrounding cloud.
