A GBP 20 million yacht owned by Australian mining magnate Clive Palmer has run aground off the coast of Singapore, it has emerged.

The luxury yacht, named Australia and allegedly owned by mining magnate and former Australian parliament member Clive Palmer, was spotted off the coast of Singapore on 16th October.

It later reportedly got stranded near the resort island of Sentosa where it was stuck and was seen tilting to the side.

It is not known if Palmer or any other persons were on board when the incident happened.

The vessel, measuring 56 metres (183 feet), was reported to be worth around AUD 40 million (GBP 20 million).

Despite not being registered in Singapore, the yacht ran aground in Singapore waters.

Witnesses described it as being stuck near a navigational buoy marking shallow waters.

Locals said there are a lot of rocks that lay hidden below the waters where the vessel was stuck.

Facilities onboard included a jacuzzi, bars, and a VIP suite.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore was informed of the incident at 4:30 p.m.

The Malta-flagged yacht was stranded off Buran Channel but was reportedly free and moving by 10:30 pm.

There was no pollution reported.

A Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) spokesman said: “The yacht has since been refloated and will be anchoring to facilitate an assessment of damage.

“There was no disruption to port operations as a result of the grounding. MPA will be investigating the incident.”

According to local media reports, the yacht was returning to Australia when the incident occurred.
